From landscape to objects

01
“A space to be gazed at, imagined and continued.”
— Liu Yuan

This project explores the familiar subject matter of ‘landscape’ to form a new sense of intimacy with our surroundings. From a generic idea of landscape into a space of improvisations and wonders.

Landscape images freely distributed online for free, spread quickly through digital connections, are borrowed, reproduced, remixed, and become copied and pasted for random uses. In my practice, the act of play operates in similar ways. Each work is shared, reconstructed, recreated and connected. It provides more space for the viewer to fill in the blanks with his or her own individual imaginings. Therefore, this space may represent landscape beyond its formal criteria and allow for a more personal interpretation.

Sometimes you have a lot to say about places you can only imagine.

Play through materials holds a central role in this research. Experiments happen through the use of a wide range of media, from flimsy light textures to solid touchable objects. These impulsive investigations respond to colour, shape and tactility, and their influence upon each other and their surroundings; how tension and balance emerge specific to states of composition. My process aims to open a vocabulary of sense and touch. Processes of response and translation build up experiences and memories; images transformed triggered figments of remembered gestures.

Acts of assemblage combine attempts to transform forms into a mixture of memory and place that has been reconstructed. Each piece contains a simple and understated quality; it reflects and connects to our everyday living. As emphasising our relationship with these simple but intimate objects of everyday life.
