Inspired by plastic toy animals with immense detailing and vibrant colours that I purchased from an industry of mass production, my artworks examine the entanglement of chimeric forms. These forms explore mythological and technological concepts of reproduction and the effects it has on art and biotechnology. Wanting to further my investigation of reproduction, my chimeric creatures were placed through the conventional method of “the lost wax process” allowing them to be cast from hard materials such as bronze. Part of my research can be seen through the plinths supporting my bronze pieces. Looking at mass-produced materials such as Formica, I have created a faux marble effect. Formica is used as a substitute for expensive organic products such as wood, marble and granite. Through the use of faux marble in my work, I am representing the commodity of consumerism and mass production.
