Station to Station

Trevor Newman Intro

My practice is about the process of mark-making, a conversation between digital and analogue.
I build on aura (authenticity), a relationship evolves between the viewer and the painting. My work is on many layers, each layer is a painting. A series within a series.

Recent work is influenced by David Bowie’s openness to experimentation and change. Digital technology and visual change is happening at an ever increasing rate, an artist today has to be open to constant change, with the work being shaken up continuously.

My work takes Bowie’s Station to Station as a foundation to construct a visual language and landscape. It combines different catagories, shakes them up through a Bowie and punk influence that, in turn, stamps a statement on painting that aims to be anything but a formalist re-run. This is the new abstraction. Layers of narrative combining to make an abstract statement.
