The words of 8506444

Writing is not my natural form of expression. I have always found refuge in books — words already on a page — but struggle to string my own words together into a sentence to put down on paper.

This writing started as part of a previous project playing with cyphers and hidden messages and quickly morphed into a poetry based practice.

To keep touch with these hidden message roots, small works like what are on display are spread throughout books in a branch of Auckland Libraries, waiting to be stumbled across by readers.

Inspired by poets Nikita Gill, Erin Hanson and Atticus, alongside artists Tracey Emin and Kate Newby, I created a unique art practice of free verse writing.

With works being spread across a range of books in Auckland Libraries and visitors being able to take cards away with them, the work is pulled from being exclusively a gallery experience to existing out in the world beyond the end of the show.
