Vivienne Worn

While sitting within a wider investigation of modern painting, this project has worked towards a process of abstraction that references moments of paintings from the past. Small clippings or details from online reproductions of historical paintings act as beginnings for my own works. In this way there has been a close reading of the brushstrokes of other artists as I make my own marks, a conversation of sorts, an opening of, or mingling with, past painterly moments from afar.

For this project the particular others researched have been modern female painters. In celebrating and gathering a newly imagined community of painters, the project offers a question of dwelling not just on painterly moments, but also on the significance of how these women were within the world and how their work may be responded to and made newly relevant within a contemporary painting practice.
