home is where the idiosyncrasy is

The home is a reflection of the private self and is implicit in an individual’s self-expression. Through staging portrait photographs in the home, there is an apparent vulnerability. I see this vulnerability as a strength that queer people possess, and which becomes vital in presenting the esoteric nature of queer lives. There is no hiding, and there is nothing to hide: the mask is the face. We share our queer affinity, but we do not live the same queer experience. Through a collaborative effort between myself and each individual, we attempt at queer visibility. In this attempt I present my technical ability, and they perform self-determination and creative control. They are the director and star of their own idiosyncratic narrative, and the spotlight shines on them.
