“Sometimes you will never know the value of a moment until it becomes a memory.”
Papatoetoe reflects back to the time when my parents migrated from Fiji in 1986 and 1991. It is an attempt to achieve a sense of familiar memory or experience that also focuses on working-class New Zealand. Even though the viewer may not be able to tell where the places are located, they are still able to recognise and relate to them.
