This research extends upon interpretations of metaphysical and philosophical theories of memory, nostalgia, and loss (through a conceptual enquiry) as a visual component in contemporary studio-based practice. I also referenced Obangsaek, a Korean philosophical theory of colours and life to inform how my art-making practices manifest in a physical space.
My specific enquiries have been trying to find a metaphysical space of memories and how they can exist in a physical state. The motivation behind this enquiry is to acknowledge how memories can be forgotten long term but nonetheless become remembered by seeing certain visual cues, otherwise known as memory traces from a metaphysical point of view.
I created specific types of works that may process these traces by using tiles that are closely related to the interior materials of the home and other physical spaces that may induce nostalgia. This process is to help remind us that we can still recall past memories that may have been forgotten through the help of memory traces.
