This July, my father passed away whilst snorkeling around coral reefs. This project extends from the events of that day, tracing my journey of emotions in a therapeutic way as I am confronted by a life-journey without him. What was the world he last saw, and how am I to tackle this world? Cyclic memories and emotions never cease to leave me, a constant reminder of the past, reflected in the form of repetition and exploration of scale.

The extending lines of the coral are symbolic of flowing energy striving to grow in power and strength in the enclosed walls of emotional turmoil, whilst my blinding senses and turbulent mind informs my bold palette of colours. There is neither a beginning nor an end to my work: a metaphor of the cycle of life itself. Purposefully avoiding the use of black, the work yearns to reminisce the beauty of the past, and aspires to envision a favourable future.

Blood spills out, growing like germs,

In a tunnel, forming a puddle.

Leather shoes, dragging through,

Footprints left as morning dew.

Immortals gush past and leave their scent,

Overpowering the blood filled night I resent.

A brown stain over a concrete block,

Not even worth a replacement stock.

There I see a dried up dock,

But inside it’s still bleeding shock.
