Pigments In Motion
“Understanding of art development and process is key to becoming a better artist.
"Pigments in motion" is an installation that displays the different techniques and evolution of
a series of abstract works. It explores the relationships between colour, movement, and art
history while highlighting the different methods acrylic painting can be applied to. By exploring
these interconnected relationships, I can empathize with various components and
approximate my emotion and technical ability into my chosen medium. I used unevenly cut card for my
painting surface with this installation, as it is economical and promotes a loose and efficient
painting development style. The card also has the benefit of allowing for varying paint
thickness to warp and shape the material. The installation is displayed on a flat, bare white
wall allowing the paintings to contrast with the background and for the subtle warping and
deformation to be more easily noticed.”
