Driven by an obsession with colour, I have developed an iterative painting practice with the hope of discovering the full pictorial, emotive and symbolic potential of colour through abstraction.
I am fascinated by the exciting dynamics of colour juxtapositions, including the ‘pure’ versus ‘muddied’, ‘pretty’ versus ‘ugly’, and ‘synthetic’ versus ‘earthy’, and paint in a style which is as thoughtful and layered as it is playful and naive.

In order to unfurl the great and complex rainbow arch of meaning that is colour, I have viewed it through multiple lenses including the personal, theoretical, scientific and poetic. I have discovered that if abstract painting is concerned with the performative, expressive and dynamic then naturally colour, with its rich emotive power and capacity for pictorial playfulness, is a vital partner to abstraction.
